David H. Bradley David H. Bradley

Dave has been with the firm since 1965. His main areas of practice are litigation and other forms of dispute resolution, counseling business organizations, and representing schools. He has authored numerous articles on school law and was the 2006 recipient of the Bradley F. Kidder award for outstanding contribuitions in the field of education law. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School, Dave has held elective offices in both the New Hampshire Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as on the Hanover and Dresden School Boards. He served as a U.S. Navy officer from 1958 to 1961. Dave is a member of the New Hampshire, Vermont and American Bar Associations and the New Hampshire Trial Laywers Association. He has served as a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of the New Hampshire Supreme Court for more than 20 years and has been its chairman since 1998. He has served as a trustee of the Cardigan Mountain School and as a member of the Hanover Improvement Society for more than 30 years. He also served as a trustee of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and as a trustee of the Friends of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Dave has been active in Dartmouth Alumni affairs, serving as President of the Dartmouth Alumni Association and as President of the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley. He was the recipient of the Dartmouth Alumni Award in 1992. Dave and his wife, Ann, who is executive director of Good Beginnings of the Upper Valley, live in Hanover, NH. They have three sons.

Gary T. Brooks Gary T. Brooks

Gary is a graduate of Dartmouth College (A.B. Summa Cum Laude, 1970) and Yale Law School (J.D. 1976). A member of both New Hampshire and Vermont Bars, he has practiced law in the Upper Valley for 30 years, specializing in trusts and estates and corporate law. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Opera North, and has been a chorus member in numerous Opera North productions. He is a Trustee and past Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Montshire Museum of Science, and is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of The Sharon Academy and the Sports Venue Foundation.

Prior to beginning his law career, Gary worked in Washington as a legislative aide to the late Congressman Dante Fascell (D-Fla.), and as Assistant Dean of the College at Dartmouth.

Gary is a past President of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association, an organization of Dartmouth alumni involved in the legal profession, with 1800 members from 44 states and more than 20 foreign countries. He is also recipient of the Dartmouth Alumni Award for his service to the College as class president, class treasurer, reunion chairman and as a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council.

Gary and his wife, Barbara Duncan, who is Executive Director of Vermont Earth Institute, live in Hanover, New Hampshire and on Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vermont. Gary has two daughters and a son, and two grandsons.

Stephen P. Girdwood Stephen P. Girdwood

Steve joined the firm with the merger of the Law Office of Gary T. Brooks in March, 2005. His areas of practice include commercial and residential real estate, environmental law, intellectual property law, municipal law, and business and corporate law. Steve graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1989, and received both his J.D. and M.S.L. (magna cum laude) from Vermont Law School in 1992. He is a member of the New Hampshire and Vermont Bar Associations. With degrees in engineering and environmental law, Steve supports his legal practice with a strong technical background. He has practiced in the Upper Valley since 1993 and currently resides with his family in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Steve is an active member of the Missions Board at the First Baptist Church of Lebanon and volunteers time coaching youth sports in the Lebanon Recreation Program.

Nicholas D. N. Harvey, Jr. Nicholas D. N. Harvey, Jr.

Nick joined the firm in 1980 after practicing for four years in a litigation-oriented law firm in Tacoma, Washington. His expertise is in the areas of estate and financial planning, probate and trust administration, and general business law. Additionally, Nick works with clients in the areas of tax and long-term asset preservation, business and succession planning, and charitable gift strategies. Nick graduated from Colgate University and the University of Puget Sound, School of Law, and is a member of the Grafton County, New Hampshire, Vermont and American Bar Associations. Nick is also a member of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is currently serving or has served with several non-profit organizations including the Town of Hanover Finance Committee, the Hanover Rotary Club (former president and member of the Board of Directors), the Vermont Academy Board of Trustees, and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Assembly of Overseers. Nick has also been on the advisory board of the Upper Valley Planned Giving Counsel and is currently on the advisory board of the Upper Valley Division of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and is a CASA, NH guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children. Nick is a member of the 1999 Leadership New Hampshire Class. He is a former Director of Granite State Electric Company and served as an officer in the Air Force between college and law school. Nick is married, has two sons and two stepchildren, and lives in Hanover.

Willemien Dingemans Miller Willemien Dingemans Miller

Willemien joined the firm as a director in February, 2000. Willemien concentrates her practice in trust and estate planning and administration. She provides advice on all aspects of trust and estate planning for U.S. citizens as well as non-U.S. citizens. Her practice includes gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, retirement planning for closely held business owners, disability planning, charitable planning, and trust and estate administration. Willemien is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (“ACTEC”) and is currently the Vermont ACTEC Chair. She received her J.D. degree with high honors from the Catholic University of Nijmegen School of Law in The Netherlands in 1985, and her LL.M. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1987. Ms. Miller was formerly a director of the law firm of Downs Rachlin & Martin in Vermont, where she practiced law from 1987 to 2000. She served as a director and the chair of the firm's trust and estate planning and administration practice since 1994. Ms. Miller is co-author of Estate Planning for Owners of Closely Held Business Interests, 809 T.M. 1993, ESTATES, GIFTS, AND TRUSTS. She is a member of the Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, and American Bar Associations. She is past Chair of the Probate and Trust Law Committee of the Vermont Bar Association. Willemien lectures frequently on all aspects of trust and estate planning and administration, including charitable giving. She currently serves with several non-profit organizations. Cathryn C. Nunlist Cathryn C. Nunlist

Cappy graduated from Brown University many years ago and matriculated at Vermont Law School when the youngest of her three children began kindergarten. After graduating summa cum laude in 1990, she worked as a law clerk for the Windsor County trial courts before entering private practice. She later returned to Vermont Law School, where she taught legal writing for four years. She joined the firm in 1997 in part for the opportunity to work with David Bradley in the area of school law. She also works with clients in the areas of family law, employment law and general litigation. Cappy returned to Vermont Law School in 2001 on a part-time basis as an Assistant Professor of Law and Assistant Director of the General Practice Program. She is a member of the New Hampshire, Vermont and U.S. Supreme Court Bar Associations. Cappy is currently serving or has served on the Lebanon School Board and the boards of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Sterry R. Waterman Inns of Court, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Upper Valley, Lebanon Opera House Improvement Corp., and Upper Valley Teachers Institute. She enjoys sports (ice hockey is her favorite), her garden, and still provides support services for her grown children and physician husband, Mark.

Catherine Richmond Catherine Richmond

Cathy joined the firm in 2002 and is a member of the New Hampshire and Vermont Bar Associations. Cathy focuses her practice on assisting individuals and families in all aspects of estate planning including wealth transfer strategies, charitable giving, and probate planning and estate and trust administration. In addition, Cathy uses her 10 years of banking and business experience prior to attending law school to help clients with regard to business, real estate and lending matters related to estate planning. Cathy regularly speaks to groups, organizations and attorneys about all aspects of estate planning. A graduate of Bates College, she received an M.B.A. from Plymouth State College in 1989 and a J.D. (cum laude) from Vermont Law School in 2002. During law school, she received academic excellence awards in Dispute Resolution, Bankruptcy, Federal Income Taxation and Securities Regulation and the Bankruptcy Medal of Excellence from the American Bankruptcy Institute. She was also a member of the Vermont Law Review. A long-time resident of the Upper Valley and an avid runner, hiker and skier, Cathy currently serves on the Ford Sayre Memorial Ski Council, Inc.

John Storrs Stebbins John Storrs Stebbins

John joined the firm in 1975. His practice focuses on Estate Planning and Administration, and residential and commercial real estate. He graduated from Princeton University (cum laude) and Columbia University Law School, where he was named a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. He is a member of the New Hampshire and Vermont Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court. John has served the boards of the Howe Library, Upper Valley Development and Training Center, David's House, the Hanover Town Library in Etna, and the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. John lives with his wife, Jan in Hanover Center, NH. Languages: German.
